Anni-Frid Frida Lyngstad

Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad was born in Ballengen, near Narvik, Norway, on November 15th 1945. Her mother, Synni was only 18 when she met a handsome German soldier named Alfred Haase.
They had to keep their relationship secret because it was frowned on to have anything to do with the Germans at the time. When Alfred had to leave he promised to come back for Synni, but he never did. It was rumored that his ship had sunk going back to Germany. Unknown to Synni was the fact that Alfred was already married and had a young daughter. But it turned out he left Synni pregnant too.
Synni was scorned by the people in her town. Liasons with the Germans were considered traitorous.. Nobody would speak to her. So, when she gave birth to her daughter, Synni convinced her mother Agny to take her 18 month old daughter to Sweden and start a new life and soon she would join them. It didn't take long before Synni went to Sweden also. They moved to Torshälla, near Eskilstuna
But Synni couldnt be with her daughter very long. On September 19 1947. Synni became ill and went into the hospital. She had a complete failure of her kidneys and on September 28 she died. Frida was not even 2 years old yet.

Frida's mom Synni and dad Alfred, and litlle Anni-Frid
As Frida would later said she called her grandma mom, and Agny was always described as a stern woman. And it’s her, if we can say, fault, that Anni-Frid became a singer. …”I remember long evenings sitting by the fireside. She taught me old Norwegian and Swedish songs. It was because of her that I became interested in singing”.
And really … Anni-Frid made her first stage debut at the age of ten singing at gala organized by the Red Cross. At the age of 13 she joined band and became lead singer.
She spent all her time singing and devoting herself to a song. She met group bass-player Ragnar Fredriksson, and soon they became inseparable. They got their first child, Hans, on 26th January 1963, and got married later that year. When the Orchestra where she sang got disbanded, Anni-Frid and Ragnar with 2 other guys formed their own band, Anni-Frid four.
It was turning point of Ani-Frid’s life. In September 1964, she took part in amateur singing competition held in Västerås. She sang Besame Mucho, song she heard on her honeymoon, and she won. In next few years, she toured with her husband. 1967 came and it was year of changes for Anni-Frid. On February 25th she gave birth to her and Ragnar’s second child, girl named Lise-Lotte. Short time after that she got her chance to take part in the national singer competition, Nya Anstikten (New Faces). It took place in Skansen Park in Stockholm on Sunday September 3rd. She sang En Ledig Dag (A day Off), and won first prize. When presenter, Lasse Holmqvist asked her what she’s going to do she said she’s going to Eskilstunna to sleep. But car waited for her and she went straight to tv studio. After not so long, offers of recording contracts came in, and she signed for EMI. First recording session took place in the Europa Films studio on September 11th. She recorded four songs – En Ledig Dag, Peter Kom Tillbaka (peter come back), Du Är Så Underbrat Rar (You are Wonderfully Kind) and Du Är Lyckan, Du Är Glädjen Inom Mig (You’re My Happiness, You’re my Joy), which wouldn’t be released.
She appeared on a TV show called Studio 8 with Agnetha Fältskog on January 6th 1968, and that was the first time they met.
In 1969 she was offered to tour with Charlie Normans show. But that would mean time away from the family. Ragnar and Frida talked and agreed that their marriage wasn't working so they should divorce. But she was worried about 6 year old Hans and almost 2 year old Lise-Lotte. She was not going to be available for them much if she pursued her career. She was pulled 2 ways.
The decision came when they both agreed the children would be better off living with their father.
Frida moved to Stockholm and new life begins for the 23 year old Anni-Frid.
On March 1, Anni-Frid performs at Melodifestivalen. She comes in 4th place.
In the first week of March 1969 she met Benny. They were both in Malmö performing in different clubs, but after work they each went to the Krogen Bar for a drink and bumped into each other.
They talked a bit over a drink and went on their seperate ways. On the 31st of the month they again were brought together in Stockholm for a radio program recording session. After the program they went together to a restaurant and talked for hours on end.

After knowing each other for 6 months Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid become engaged during dinner at Hamburgers Bors August 18th. It as also the opening night of Frida's cabaret show there.
On April 1st 1970, Anni-Frid and Benny moved into a furnished studio flat in Vasastan in Stockholm and it was so small that Benny couldn’t move his piano in. Anni-Frid and Benny teamed up with Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog and started working on their very first project together; the cabaret show called Festfolket, which opened in Göteborg on 1 November 1970. The premiere of the show was preceded by their very first performance together on the Swedish Radio show Våra favoriter on October 3, 1970. In autumn, she also bagins to work with Benny on her new album, titled Frida, which was released in spring of 1971.
What comes next is ABBA, and Frida's part in group. But in 1975 she released her solo album called Ensam. It included the original Swedish version of the future ABBA mega-hit "Fernando", was released in 1975 when she was already involved in ABBA. The album became an enormous commercial and critical success in Scandinavia, topping the Swedish album charts for six weeks and remaining in the charts for 40. The album was mostly a collection of covers of songs by artists like the Beach Boys, 10cc and David Bowie.

In 1982, during ABBA's last year as a working band, Frida released her first solo record in English, a Phil Collins-produced album, Something's Going On, that topped the charts in Sweden, and reached the Top 20 in the UK and Top 50 in the US. It sold around 1.5 million copies worldwide and spawned a hugely successful single "I Know There's Something Going On" that made the Top 10 in charts across the world and sold around 3.5 million copies. In the US, the single reached No.13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No.9 on Radio & Records airplay chart. The music video for the song was heavily promoted on MTV. The album itself was also well received by the critics, with Billboard writing: "Abba's auburn-haired songstress makes a bold solo project a stunning success", while Mark Coleman described "Something's Going On" in the 3rd edition of Rolling Stone Album Guide as a "sharp, rock-oriented, delightfully eclectic album". William Cooper had a similar opinon in All Music Guide: "Frida escapes the creative limitations of being a member of one of the world's most popular groups on this solid and often riveting album."

In 1983, she assisted with 'Abbacadabra - the Musical', and featured with Daniel Balavoine on one track 'Belle, Belle' of the resulting album, 'Abbacadabra - Conte Musical'. This track was a cover of 'Arrival', an instrumental track from the ABBA album of the same name.
Her next album, Shine (1984) enjoyed moderate success. It reached the Top 20 in several European countries, No.6 in Sweden being its highest position, and proved to be her last foray into the international music world.
In 1992, she performed live at the Stockholm Water Festival and released an environmental charity single with her cover of Julian Lennon's song Saltwater.
In 1996, Frida recorded a Swedish language album Djupa Andetag that topped the Swedish charts and attracted positive reviews. A follow-up album was reportedly in works, but eventually shelved due to personal reasons.

Several one-off recordings followed, including a 2002 duet with Filippa Giordano on the Barcarolle from opera Les contes d'Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach, and the song "The Sun Will Shine Again", written especially for Lyngstad by former Deep Purple member Jon Lord and recorded in 2004. Both performances, however, were not released as singles: "Barcarolle" is only available on the special Japanese edition of Giordano's "Rosso Amore" album, and "The Sun Will Shine Again" can be found on Jon Lord's album "Beyond The Notes".
Also in 2004, Frida appeared with former bandmates Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus at London's fifth anniversary performance of Mamma Mia!, the musical based on ABBA songs. In 2005, she joined all three of her former ABBA colleagues at the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia! at Cirkus in Stockholm.
And now she's involved in Mamma Mia!, she's often at premiere's, but she lives more quietly, in Switzerland.
On August 26, 1992, Frida married her longtime boyfriend, Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss of Plauen Upon marriage, she acquired the title of Her Serene Highness Princess Anni-Frid Reuss of Plauen. Prince Heinrich died of lymphoma in 1999, while a year eariler, Frida's daughter Lise-Lotte Casper was fatally injured in a road accident in the United States. Through Firda's marriage to Heinrich, who was a student at the same boarding school as the reigning King of Sweden, she became acquainted with the Swedish Royal family and eventually became close friends with Sweden's Queen Silvia. Today, Anni-Frid still engages in charity work - drug prevention in particular.

California Here I Come

This was the first song ABBA performed on TV, long while ago, back in 1970., and back then they were not called ABBA, but Festfolket. And that would mean Party people or engaged couples, how ever you like it because festfolket have double meaning. cool
